User Update
29 July 2007
Damn, it’s been since June that we last posted some of our updates here, and quite a bit has happened since then so, bear with me.
Well first and foremost, I changed the theme. I found one that had a larger customizable header, which offers more creative space to those who might feel saucy enough to design a header for the site…wink*wink*nudge*nudge. The speces are 760 x 190 pixels.
We’ve added several new links in our Friends Of Soul section: Cyclokitty, Sewing My Shadow On, Go Lookabout, More Miles Per Gallon, Too Old To Die Young, Drunk Cyclist, and Militant Cyclist.
We’ve also added an Artists We Dig And Who Ride links section, and it has….well, just what the title says. So, if you know anyone who is a bike nut and an artist, with a website/blog just hit us up, we’ll check it and link it.
In our Activism & Support section we added links to community mapping site Bikely.com and the Delocator site, which helps you find local and independent coffee houses in your area, you can also add your favorite coffee shop to the site.
In Bike Shops That Rock we added B1 Bicycles in Columbus, Ohio. This shop came up after I had moved west, but our friend the Militant Cyclist is a frequent visitor.
We added a Shop section which links to our CafePress shop with Soul Side Down merchandise. there is only one logo there, but I have a new logo in the works and that should be ready before fall.
That is about if for now. I have been posting more regularly and we seem to now have a few people that are stopping by to view and comment. A couple are becoming regulars and good friends of Soul. All of the links in our Friends Of Soul section are sites we’ve checked out, viewed, read and commented on. Thanks to all of them.
We are always looking for ways to improve the site and we still hope to someday have a physical website along with this blog. We are still interested in submissions from you the people, the riders, the bike freaks.

Updates have been few and far in between, but recently there have been some small. ones.
On 15 June we added a link to a new bike shop in Columbus, Ohio. B1 Bikes is a downtown bike shop that specializes in the urban riding experience, they service and sell products for fixed gear, track, commuter, road, and city bicycles. Makes me miss home.
We added a link section, Artists We Dig & Who Ride. This contains…well…I guess the title says it all. So if you know of any artists who ride and should be feature in this link section, hit us up and we’ll check ‘em out.
We also added a Merchandise Shop at CafePress. Right now there is only one image for product, but more will be coming soon.
There is a link in the Friends Of Soul section to an art gallery named UzoMa in Louisville, Kentucky, which recently had an exhibit featuring bicycle related art. Our co-founder Jerry Hazard had some work featured in this exhibit.
We’ve also started firing off 10 Questions for Soul to random people, The first two were answered by our contributor Jeffery in Columbus, Ohio , and co-founder Jerry Hazard. More should be coming in soon from some of our Friends Of Soul , including Ryan the Anarchist Cyclist, Bryce Pratt from Crawling Spider Gallery, and Lukas of the MooseKnuckler Cycling Alliance.
After mentioning his name so much here, Jeffery our C-Bus connection contributed an article back in May, Not all who wander are lost . Peep it it’s a fresh article.
That’s it for now.

A few updates have been added, but not much else. Sorry for the lack of posts, but work and life have a funny way of getting in the way. I haven’t forgotten about this blog, and have been working on somethings to get it moving forward. Thanks for your understanding.
Peace, Patrick

Added a movie review for “Joe Kid Stingray” - A documentary following BMX from it’s 70’s roots up to present day X games.
April 6 2007
Added two links this evening.
First is for a website called “Q Bike”. While I’m a firm believer in supporting one’s own local economy - especially where bike shops are concerned. Sometimes for whatever reason you can’t find what you need locally - or you can’t afford it. Enter Q-bike, the google of the cycling world. You specify your search criteria, and good ol’ Q Bike searches a plethora of cycling resources for you, and returns the results in a timely fashion. I still buy locally if I can, but if I’m looking for an old Aluminum Alpine Stars with elevated chainstays, or a Manitou Hardtail frame or the like, Q Bike is where I start.
(edit* April 8 - new category for links added: Resources. If you have keen place or functioin available on the web, send it in!)
The other link is for the San Juan Hut system.
(added to ‘events’, because, well it certainly is one…)
“From the Alpine Peaks of the San Juan’s to Moab’s Canyon Country and Desert Slickrock”.
More specifically, it’s a ride of a lifetime. 7 days pedaling through the San Juan Mountains, “215 miles of U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management dirt roads connect Durango to Moab”. For a nominal fee, you travel anywhere from 18 to 41 miles a day, climb to elevations in excess of 11,000 ft, experience first hand some of the most diverse geography/geology in the world, and have a keen little hut to sleep in every night. I’ve heard/read about it a lot recently. Even though you do travel mostly on Forest Service/Fire Roads, there is an increasing amount of available singletrack being created, mostly near where huts are located - plus, your ride terminates in one of the keenest places in the world to ride - Moab, Utah. If you’ve got week with nothing better to do, you may check this out. All I can say about it is: “I have a dream”….
25 March 2007
Not much has happened this past week, busy at work and with life.
We did get a contribution from Mr. Lukas, head honcho of the Mooseknuckler Cycling Alliance. Read and enjoy.
Added a DISCLAIMER page. Read it, Learn it, Live it.
Also, added a new link in the Friends of Soul section:
Urban Cyclist is a limited edition print zine about cycling in the city. Started by two guys, Brad & Jeff, from Dirtrag Magazine. Peep it.
Look for more new things in the near future.
18 March 2007
This update encompasses several that have been done over the past week.
We added several new link catagorize:
BIKE SHOPS THAT ROCK, which lists locally owned bike shops with helpful, friendly associates and a passion for bikes. Why local? We feel they provide a better service and the owners and associates are your friends and neighbors. Who better to answer your questions about riding in your town than those who live, work, and ride there. Do you know of a bike shop that should be linked. Hit us up and we’ll post it.
Cover Your Body, which lists clothing made by bikers for bikers. Our aim for this section is to have it contain clothing (t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, etc.) made by small independent companies or yourself. If you have a web locale (such as CafePress) or website where your clothing is featured, again, hit us up and we’ll feature it.
Friends Of Soul, Lists sites about cycling by other fellow bike fiends, and it also lists things we just dig.
Activism & Support, Lists things we support and that you can get involved in, either by donations or volunteering.
New links we also added to theses sections.
PROJECT RWANDA was listed in the Activism &Support section
Baer Wheels, Pedal The Peaks, and Red Rock Bicycles were added to the Bike Shops… section
We also added a Submissions page, this contains the guidelines for submitting work to be posted on Soul Side Down, and a Conatct page
More stuff is always in the works. So, keep checking back.
Ride On - Ride Safe
Peace, Patrick
